February 2026.

The ROC Foundation has returned to Tanzania with a new healthcare cooperation campaign, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening local healthcare systems through two fundamental pillars: highly complex urological surgery and specialized medical training.

The mission began with an institutional welcome by the hospital director, Sister Alicia, and the medical director, together with international professionals and Fernando García Marín, president of the Spanish Foundation for Health Cooperation (FECS).

Surgery, training, and teamwork

On this mission, doctors Juan Justo and Vital Hevia have been working in the field performing complex kidney surgeries on patients with advanced lithiasis, functional renal failure, and localized kidney cancer. The procedures performed include radical nephrectomies and a partial nephrectomy, highly complex interventions that represent a significant advance in strengthening local surgical capacity.

Each campaign represents an opportunity to share knowledge, strengthen local capacities, and consolidate professional ties.

During these intense days of work, the ROC Foundation team has collaborated closely with local healthcare personnel, promoting mutual learning and advancing a model of cooperation based on the real transfer of knowledge and the progressive autonomy of the country's medical teams.

Looking to the future: toward the first kidney transplant

This mission has enabled progress to be made toward a far-reaching strategic goal: the development of a kidney transplant program in the country, with the first transplant expected to take place in 2026.

This is a decisive step toward consolidating comprehensive and sustainable urological care, enabling definitive solutions to be offered to patients with advanced kidney disease.

Health and education: a comprehensive commitment

In addition to the health impact, we are celebrating a milestone that reinforces our vision of comprehensive cooperation: the secondary school promoted as part of the project has now opened its doors.

Because we firmly believe that health and education are inseparable rights and essential drivers for breaking cycles of vulnerability and creating real opportunities for the future.

Ongoing cooperation for lasting impact

This mission has been made possible thanks to the joint work with the Spanish Foundation for Health Cooperation (FECS), an alliance that demonstrates that continued cooperation is what generates a real and sustainable impact over time.

Cooperation does not end when the mission ends. It continues in every bond created, every piece of knowledge shared, and every step we take toward a stronger, more autonomous health system that is prepared for the future.

At the ROC Foundation, we continue to work to make urology a tool for social transformation where it is most needed.
