San Pedro Sula / Madrid, May 2025 - The ROC Foundation, in its firm commitment to international cooperation and access to health, has collaborated in a medical mission to the Mario Catarino Rivas Hospital in San Pedro Sula (Honduras). The initiative, carried out from April 28 to May 3, has been possible thanks to the joint collaboration with the hospital itself and the Trinitario Casanova Foundation and has allowed to improve the quality of life of several patients in a region where access to highly complex treatments is extremely limited.

The campaign has focused on providing specialized surgical care in oncology and renal reconstructive surgery, areas of high demand in a region where access to this type of treatment is limited for a large part of the population. To carry out these interventions, the mission has counted on the participation of Dr. Vital Hevia, a specialist in urology and active member of the foundation.

This initiative of the ROC Foundation responds to the high prevalence of severe urological pathologies in Honduras, such as advanced renal tumors and complex infectious pathologies. The difficulty of access to specialized surgical treatments makes this type of mission a fundamental tool to offer quality medical care to the most vulnerable patients and tangibly improve their quality of life.

During the campaign, highly complex interventions were performed, including surgeries for locally advanced renal tumors with vascular invasion, reconstructions of the urinary tract, pelvic oncologic surgery in collaboration with the local pediatric surgery team and nephrectomies for complex benign pathology.

This action underlines the joint commitment of the ROC Foundation and the Trinitario Casanova Foundation to solidarity medicine, committed to bringing health care to areas with limited resources and, at the same time, generating lasting partnerships with local medical personnel.

The ROC Foundation highly values the involvement of its team of specialists in international projects of high social and health impact, which reinforce both the medical vocation and the ethical commitment to health equity that define the organization.
