The ROC Foundation maintains ongoing cooperation in Tanzania in partnership with the Spanish Foundation for Health Cooperation (FECS), with the aim of strengthening specialized urological care and developing sustainable local capacities.
As part of this strategic plan, Bugando Hospital has shown a strong interest in enhancing its urology services and moving towards the creation of a kidney transplant program. This mission is part of that process of consolidation and growth.
During the mission, doctors Juan Justo and Vital Hevia performed 16 highly complex kidney surgeries on patients with:
The procedures performed include radical nephrectomies and a partial nephrectomy.
The surgical activity was carried out in close collaboration with the local medical team, promoting the exchange of knowledge and strengthening technical skills in complex urological surgery.
Beyond the interventions, the mission has had a strong training component, working alongside hospital professionals to consolidate a model of cooperation based on the real transfer of knowledge and the autonomy of the urology service.
As part of the comprehensive cooperation project in Mwanzugi, we celebrated the opening of the secondary school, a milestone that reinforces our vision that health and education are inseparable pillars of sustainable development.
The launch of the school represents a real opportunity for the future of young people in the community and consolidates the long-term commitment to human development in the region.
Progress has been made in planning the future kidney transplant program, with the goal of performing the first transplant in 2026, a key milestone in the development of comprehensive urological care in the country.
Your collaboration is key for the Fundación ROC to continue promoting projects that improve the lives of thousands of people.
With your support, we can facilitate access to health in vulnerable communities, as well as education and research in the field of urology. Together we can make a difference.
